Freo eyes rookie monster Chad Sandilands

0

Meet Chad Sandilands, the 17-year-old brother of Fremantle monster Aaron who could one day partner his brother at the Dockers.

Sandilands is a raw beanpole ruckman viewed as a long-term development project and Fremantle is understood to be considering rookie-listing him in December.

At 204cm, he is 7cm shorter than his brother but said he was still growing.

Sandilands played six colts games for East Fremantle this season and spent the rest of his time playing in the amateurs for the Bullcreek-Leeming colts.

Surprise as Clark takes up Demon offer

0

Melbourne has convinced Mitch Clark to join the Demons ahead of Fremantle, in a dramatic twist to trade week that will see Brisbane collect pick 12 in the national draft.

The Demons made an improved pitch late yesterday, and Clark informed the club of his decision late last night.

After the Lions yesterday began inching closer to a deal with Fremantle for the 23-year-old, who rejected the Demons’ initial advances on Friday, Melbourne responded by making another strong pitch, upping an already significant four-year offer.

Earlier, the Lions – who have also agreed to a three-year deal with Hawthorn forward Jordan Lisle – were considering a Fremantle offer that would have gained them pick 16 in next month’s draft and access to a pre-listed player, who would come via Greater Western Sydney.

The Lions asked Fremantle for picks 16 and 38, but the Dockers rejected that idea, with the hope that a deal done last week with the Giants would help them get the uncontracted Clark over the line.

Clark tells Freo he’s a Demon

0

A little more than 24 hours after telling Fremantle officials that he was committed to returning home to WA and being a Freo Docker in 2012, Mitch Clark has tonight advised the club that he has instead accepted a revised offer from Melbourne.

Fremantle general manager of football operations Chris Bond said that the club was not in a position to match the second of two offers Melbourne had put to Clark, who has spent the past six seasons with Brisbane.

“If we were to match Melbourne’s offer to Mitch it would make him the highest paid player at our club over the next four seasons and we are not prepared to compromise our list management model to achieve that outcome,” Bond said.

“It’s disappointing that Mitch has decided not to follow through on his commitment to sign with Fremantle. We accept his decision and wish him all the best for the future. The club looks forward to entering the national draft with two first round selections in picks 16 and 20.”

By SportsNewsFirst

EXCLUSIVE: Sacked Fremantle coach Mark Harvey has revealed plans to stay living in Western Australia and wants to hold talks with West Coast about being an assistant coach.

Harvey has ruled out ever again being a senior coach.

And despite being dumped by the Dockers in an unsavoury manner a month ago, Fremantle officials have asked their former coach to ease off any criticism of the club.

Clark determined to be a Freo Docker

0

Mitch Clark has today confirmed his commitment to being a Fremantle Docker in 2012.

Clark has become the subject of a last minute bidding war, with Melbourne vying to trump Fremantle’s longstanding offer for the 23-year-old via the lure of a bigger financial package and by reportedly offering Brisbane pick 12 for him in the NAB AFL National Draft.

“I respect and genuinely appreciate the interest shown by Melbourne but these decisions are not always about the financial side of things,” Clark said.

“I’ve been saying for quite some time now that I want to return home to WA and play for Fremantle. Despite the highly attractive offer Melbourne have put on the table, I remain firmly committed to returning to Perth to be with my family and to signing with Freo.”

A ruckman/forward who has played 82 games for the Lions since making his debut in 2006, Clark said he was hopeful that Brisbane and Fremantle would be able to resolve the situation before the trade period’s 2.00pm (EST) deadline on Monday.

Freo still Clark’s preference

0

Brisbane Lions forward Mitch Clark is still on track to move to his preferred club Fremantle by the end of Trade Week, despite fielding what his manager described as an “outstanding” offer from Melbourne late on Wednesday.

Fremantle, which holds selections No.16 and No.20 in this year’s NAB AFL Draft, has been the frontrunner to secure Clark from the Lions, but the clubs are yet to agree on a satisfactory trade.

Brisbane Lions list manager Rob Kerr said on Thursday that he was surprised Fremantle was yet to table a formal offer for Clark.

Melbourne could potentially trump Fremantle with its pick No.12 in this year’s Draft, with the Demons also holding compensation picks for losing midfielder Tom Scully to GWS.

However, Young maintained that his client’s preference was to return to his native Western Australia and play with Fremantle.

Freo secures pick 20 in National Draft

0

The Fremantle Dockers have secured selection number 20 in next month’s NAB AFL National Draft after a three-way exchange involving Greater Western Sydney and St Kilda.

As part of the three-way deal, GWS will give pick 25 and two pre-listing selections – VFL player Ahmed Saad and SANFL player Terry Milera – to St Kilda in exchange for the Saints’ pick 20.

Under the exchange agreed to today, Fremantle will give its compensation national draft selection, an end of first round selection, to GWS in exchange for the pick 20 the Giants had earlier acquired from St Kilda.

Fremantle originally received the compensation selection after the out of contract Rhys Palmer signed with the Giants last month.

As a result, Fremantle will have picks 16, 20, 38, 56 and 72 in next month’s NAB AFL National Draft.

Port lose interest in Griffin

0

Port Adelaide are searching for a mature-age ruckman in trade negotiations other than Jonathon Griffin, with the Fremantle big man appearing likely to remain a Docker next year.

Hawthorn premiership player Brent Renouf is believed to be firmly on the Power’s radar.

Sydney coach John Longmire also confirmed yesterday that Port had shown interest in former West Coast ruckman and now Sydney back-up Mark Seaby.

Both Renouf and Seaby battled injuries in 2011 before struggling to force their way into their respective sides.

Renouf, 23, missed out on the Hawks’ finals campaign on the back of WA giant Max Bailey’s successful return from a third knee reconstruction, while Seaby, 27, has battled for game time, with Shane Mumford preferred as a solo ruckman.

Huge Melbourne package for Mitch Clark

0

By SportsNewsFirst

Melbourne Demons have dropped an AFL trade week bombshell with a massive contract offer to Mitchell Clark in a bid to snare the potential power forward.

Clark will get a lucrative financial package to switch to the Demons after it had been widely expected the big forward and back-up ruckman would head home to Western Australia to play with Fremantle.

Melbourne’s package is believed to be a multi-million dollar deal over four years for Clark.

Mitch Clark’s trade hopes slide

0

Mitch Clark may struggle in his bid to be traded to a Perth club this week while John McCarthy looks increasingly unlikely to be at Collingwood next year, said their respective managers on Wednesday.

It also appears as though Hawthorn defender Rick Ladson could be on his way to Greater Western Sydney with the Giants expressing keen interest in the 27-year-old.

Clark’s manager Colin Young said he was growing increasingly concerned a deal with Fremantle – Clark’s preferred target – was not going to happen this week with the Brisbane Lions wanting more than the club could offer.

He also said Clark could opt to enter the NAB AFL Pre-season Draft in December if a trade didn’t come up before Monday’s deadline, with the Lions believing  Fremantle’s first-round selection of No.16 in the NAB AFL Draft is not enough to get the deal done.

“The draft has been compromised and unfortunately Brisbane deserve a top-10 pick but they probably won’t get it if Fremantle can’t negotiate down,” Young told afl.com.au‘s Trade Week Radio.
