Final Changes: Hasleby IN DeBoer OUT

0

The final team lists have been submitted into the AFL for this weeks blockbuster clash at Subiaco Oval against Saint Kilda. Paul Hasleby returning to the team from his back injury and Matthew DeBoer missing out due to general soreness.

Solomon a possible comeback?

0

THERE is one notable bloke who has started joining in drills at Fremantle Oval in recent weeks. His name is Dean Solomon, a player who finally succumbed to battered knees and retired from the AFL in February after 209 gruelling games for Essendon and the Dockers.

”We all know how Dean has played the game throughout his career and his body has succumbed to that style of play,” said Fremantle’s general manager of football operations, Chris Bond, at the time.

Fremantle elevated tagger Matt de Boer from the rookie list on March 5, but Solomon’s retirement just three weeks out from the start of the season means the tough defender remains a listed Dockers player.

Now, three months later, Solomon is back kicking a Sherrin at training and, according to spies, is looking fresh for his spell.

Paul Hasleby noted as much when he interviewed Solomon for the AFL website. After some prodding from his Dockers’ teammate, Solomon revealed a desire to play a part in Fremantle’s tilt at finals action. ”I’ve been joining in a couple of training drills here and there,” Solomon said.

Travel bugbear for Dockers, Eagles

1

Fremantle and West Coast have cried foul over Victorian-based clubs using AFL-subsidised charter flights to travel to Perth for matches – part of an experiment to test the viability of the concept.

Geelong chartered a plane for their game against the Eagles last Saturday. St Kilda will do likewise to play Fremantle on Sunday and had AFL assistance for a charter on their trip to play the Eagles earlier this season.

It is believed both WA clubs raised the issue with the league at a recent presidents meeting.

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey put an edge to Sunday’s clash with the Saints when he raised it again at his press conference yesterday, querying why WA clubs were not the focus of any such experiment.

Pav has not even mentioned moving, says fiancee

0

The chances of Matthew Pavlich seeing out the rest of his AFL career in Fremantle are strengthening by the day, after fiancee Lauren O’Shannassy admitted the couple had never even discussed a move away from WA.

With Pavlich’s Dockers contract up at the end of the season, shouts from Adelaide and whispers from the Gold Coast have made some Freo fans nervous about Pavlich’s intentions.

But in another massive pointer to Pavlich ignoring the overtures of Adelaide, O’Shannassy told WAtoday the subject of a possible move had never been talked about between the pair.

“We have never even discussed a move to Adelaide,” O’Shannassy said.

Don’t judge us yet: Harvey

0

FREMANTLE coach Mark Harvey believes his side’s performances so far this year should be judged after the mid-season break, not in a testing fortnight that starts on Sunday against St Kilda.

The club is currently fourth on the AFL ladder and faces St Kilda (third) at Subiaco Oval and then Carlton (fifth) at Etihad Stadium in a two-week stretch that could cement a top four spot.

But Harvey said with a number of key players set to return after the mid-season break, his side should be judged on its form after the week off.

“A lot of teams are just starting to get caught up in the injury toll – we’re one of them,” Harvey said from Fremantle Oval on Wednesday.

“I wouldn’t necessarily be judging us on the next two weeks, it’ll be more after the break.

“The two teams that we play [in the next two weeks] are in front of us and behind us, so it’s an interesting two games.

Harvey reveals contract talks with Dockers

0

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey has confirmed serious discussions about his future at the club have begun – with the mid-season break being targeted as the possible window for him to re-sign.

With the Dockers sitting pretty at the summit of the AFL ladder alongside Geelong, they have the chance to be number one on their own this weekend if arch-rivals West Coast do them a favour and upset the Cats in Perth.

Harvey will be hoping to extinguish the memories of the 117-point humiliation at the hands Adelaide at AAMI Stadium last year, when they managed one goal for the whole game.

And the Dockers hierarchy seemed to have set themselves another immediate goal of securing Harvey’s services, with the coach admitting for the first time today he had been made an offer.
