WAFL Watch: Jack building form
Apr 1st
Wayward kicking aside, Collingwood recruit Jack Anthony made an encouraging WAFL debut that suggests his first game for Fremantle is not far away.
The 23-year-old booted 3.4 for Subiaco in round two of the state competition, impressing with his contested efforts and work-rate.
Anthony arrived at Fremantle Oval with a reputation as a sharpshooter and assistant coach Simon Lloyd said the club was not concerned about some missed chances at the weekend.
“To be honest, Jack’s one of the better kicks in the competition, so that’s not a concern for us,” Lloyd said. “It’s really about making sure he gets a full, rounded game.
“He had the opportunity to convert a set shot from 25m to put Subiaco in front. He unfortunately missed that one, but most of the time you’d back Jack to kick those.”
Clancee looks to overflow at Freo
Mar 21st

Rookie-listed Clancee Pearce improved his chances of being elevated to Fremantle’s senior list for a third consecutive season with an outstanding effort for Swan Districts to open the WAFL season.
Pearce worked tirelessly from half-forward on Saturday to finish with 25 possessions, two goals and a game-high 15 marks, his inspirational third quarter going a long way towards Swans turning a nine-point half-time deficit into a 13-point lead at the last change.
While East Perth finished powerfully to win the match by 15 points, Pearce continued to exert an influence in a dominant four-quarter display at Steel Blue Oval.
Selected at No.48 in the 2009 rookie draft, Pearce has played 14 games for the Dockers in the past two seasons.
The 20-year-old, a member of Swan Districts’ premiership side last year, said he had been encouraged by his latest strong showing.
Freo, Eagles push for own WAFL teams
Mar 9th

West Coast and Fremantle will make a joint submission to the WA Football Commission by the end of this month outlining why they should have stand-alone teams in the WAFL as early as next year.
Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett confirmed last night he and Dockers counterpart Steve Rosich were heading a working party compiling the bid, which he said had been requested by the WAFC.
And in a further push, the AFL Players’ Association will make a separate submission at the same time to the WAFC strongly supporting the position of WA’s AFL clubs. It is expected to be finalised later this week.
AFLPA player relations manager Ian Prendergast told The West Australian last night the concept was “ideal” and reflected how players felt about their development amid significant recent changes in the game’s professionalism at the elite level.

Brock O’Brien to play for East Freo in 2011
Nov 25th

The East Fremantle Football Club is proud to announce that former Fremantle Docker and Peel Thunder midfielder Brock O’Brien has committed to the East Fremantle Football Club for the next 3 seasons.
Brock managed 3 AFL games with the Dockers throughout his time with the club and 41 league games with the Peel Thunder Football Club.
Brock played three games in his first two seasons with the Dockers but constant battles with injury stopped him from showing his full potential at AFL level.
The left-footer is a highly skilled defender come midfielder who will add much vigour to what is shaping as a strong East Fremantle midfield battery.

Hasleby bites bait to coach
Oct 28th

The lure of a high-performance coaching role with South Fremantle was the bait that convinced retired Docker Paul Hasleby to continue his playing career at the WAFL club next season.
Hasleby, 29, has signed with the Bulldogs under a deal where he will fill dual playing and coaching roles in the wake of his recent AFL retirement.
His coaching responsibilities will involve working with the club’s promising youngsters in a mentoring capacity under senior coach John Dimmer.
He is also aiming to finish his level three high-performance accreditation next year with an eye to a potential coaching future in AFL ranks.
Hasleby, who has only committed to a one-year deal but has not ruled out playing in the WAFL for two seasons, said the prospect of the high-performance role rather than his personal connections to the club led to his decision to join the Bulldogs.
His manager, Anthony van der Wielen, is a board member at South Fremantle, while close friend Kris Miller plays with the Bulldogs.
Hasleby shocks WA footy
Oct 21st
Recently retired AFL star Paul Hasleby is set to rock WA football foundations with a sacrilegious switch to end his career with South Fremantle.
Hasleby is a decorated product of traditional WA heavyweight East Fremantle but he is understood to have agreed to end his playing days at South and not with his original club.
The respected Dockers veteran of 208 senior games in a distinguished career launched in 2000, has explored various coaching options at AFL and local level for his initial professional steps after his playing days at the highest level.
WAFL watch: Grand Final
Sep 24th
Sunday’s WAFL grand final provided valuable experience for four Fremantle players, with Michael Walters, Clayton Hinkley, Clancee Pearce and Byron Schammer all benefiting from a berth in the big game.
Swan Districts edged Claremont by just one point in a riveting grand final, with Sandover medallist Andrew Krakouer winning the Simpson Medal for his 40-possession, four-goal game.
Clancee Perce played an important role for Swans, kicking in and running hard on the rebound from half-back, while teammate Clayton Hinkley caught the eye with his run and carry on the wing.
Highly rated youngster Michael Walters was also on the winning side, and senior development coach Simon Lloyd said the midfielder gained plenty out of the experience.
“That was one big thing we spoke to Mark Harvey about beforehand, that it was really important for Michael to play in that game,” Lloyd said.
WAFL watch: Hinkley attacks
Sep 16th
Carrying the football and utilising his pace has been a focus for Clayton Hinkley this season, and things seemed to click for the 21-year-old in Sunday’s WAFL preliminary final.
Hinkley, who has had a mixed WAFL campaign with Swan Districts, was a key player as his side prevailed by 38 points over East Perth, earning the right to tackle Claremont in Sunday’s grand final.
The midfielder was one of just three Fremantle players in action, with Zac Clarke and Clancee Pearce contributing for their sides but having quieter than usual games.
Senior development coach Simon Lloyd said that after impressing in a series of run-with roles early in the season, Hinkley needed to find the right blend of attack and defence in his game.
“I think early in the year Clayton played some very good football in those run-with roles,” Lloyd said.
WAFL watch: Zac attack

Fremantle midfielder Rhys Palmer made a late case to be considered for Friday night’s semi-final clash against Geelong with a strong performance for East Fremantle in week one of the WAFL finals.
Palmer, who last played for Fremantle in round 21 against Hawthorn, had 21 possessions for the Sharks and booted two running goals in the first quarter to stake his claim.
Just five Fremantle players were involved across the first week of WAFL finals, but Kepler Bradley, Des Headand and Paul Hasleby will still be considered for senior selection on Friday night.
Emerging ruckman Zac Clarke continued a solid run of form, impressing both in the ruck and forward line to earn this week’s WAFL player of the round award.
Steven Dodd, Clancee Pearce and Clayton Hinkley were also involved.
