Freo blow as Scott lands Cats job
Oct 18th

As Fremantle look to move on from losing a key player behind their big improvement last season, new Geelong coach Chris Scott says he is acutely aware of the fine line he will walk as the AFL club aims to return to the top without rebuilding.
The Dockers assistant and two-time Brisbane premiership player was the surprise choice to replace Mark Thompson, who cited burnout when he resigned suddenly at the start of the month.
On the one hand, Scott and Geelong know he must introduce new ideas and overhaul their game style if they are to quickly overtake premiers Collingwood, who smashed the Cats last month in their preliminary final.
But Scott, who has been appointed to a three year term, also stressed he has plenty to learn as he comes into one of the league’s best-run clubs as a complete outsider.
It is all at once a dream debut AFL senior coaching job and a massive challenge.

At the recent AFL Exchange Period, Chris Tarrant was traded to Collingwood.

Dockers overboard – Freo axe four more!
Oct 13th

Fremantle quartet Steven Dodd, Ryan Murphy, Brock O’Brien and Ben Bucovaz are set to be delisted as the major casualties of the club’s aggressive week of trading.
The Dockers have already made significant changes to their squad and the group appear certain to have their careers terminated within a fortnight.
Fremantle traded Chris Tarrant to Collingwood, delisted Chris Hall and farewelled the retiring Paul Hasleby, Dean Solomon, Scott Thornton and Des Headland.
But the acquisition of Adelaide ruckman Jonathon Griffin, WAFL player Tendai Mzungu and VFL defender Peter Faulks, and the re-signings of Antoni Grover, Michael Walters and Clayton Hinkley have left only three vacancies on their list.
Football operations manager Chris Bond said the club would use picks 20, 44 and 55 at next month’s national draft to add more talented youngsters to the squad.
Fremantle happy with trade week
Oct 11th
Fremantle has successfully negotiated a trade for Chris Tarrant’s return to Collingwood, securing picks 43 and 55 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft in exchange for pick 44 and the 30-year-old defender.
The Tarrant trade was the fourth and final deal completed by Fremantle during the exchange period, which ended today.
Earlier, Fremantle secured Adelaide ruckman Jonathon Griffin. The 24-year-old was traded in exchange for Fremantle’s round four selection (pick No.61 overall) in the draft.
Griffin made his debut for the Crows in 2007 and has played 41 AFL games. He was recruited in the 2005 Rookie Draft (pick No. 21) from East Fremantle.
The other trades included Tendai Mzungu and Peter Faulks, who were both pre-listed players with the Gold Coast Suns.
Tarrant deal finally done
Oct 11th
Fremantle defender Chris Tarrant has returned to his original AFL club, Collingwood, after Freo and the Magpies agreed to an eleventh-hour trade on Monday afternoon.
Collingwood receives Tarrant and a third-round NAB AFL Draft pick, No.44, while Fremantle receives a round two pick, No.43, and a round three pick, No.55.
The deal was finalised half an hour before the end of the trading period along with a trade with West Coast where Collingwood gave away its compensation pick for losing Josh Fraser to Gold Coast in exchange for pick No.45.
Tarrant moved to the Dockers in 2006 in exchange for Paul Medhurst and pick No.8, which the Magpies used on premiership defender Ben Reid.
That was after a nine-year, 161-game career at Collingwood which netted 299 goals, an All-Australian selection and five leading-goalkicker awards.

Oct 4th
It was a promising sign that Fremantle’s future is looking bright, with four of the top 10 vote-getters from the club’s Doig Medal award being first or second year players.
Excitement machine Stephen Hill lead the charge of the young brigade, finishing fourth with 137 votes, behind winner David Mundy (190), 2009 Medallist Aaron Sandilands (171) and skipper Matthew Pavlich (160).
Greg Broughton (116 votes) and Hayden Ballantyne (103) capped off their excellent second seasons of AFL football, coming in fifth and sixth respectively.
Gun rookie Michael Barlow polled 97 votes to finish seventh despite not playing after round 14.
It’s David’s Doig
Oct 4th
Fremantle midfielder David Mundy has tonight won the Doig Medal as Fremantle’s best and fairest player for 2010.
The 25-year-old polled 190 votes to edge out 2009 Medallist Aaron Sandilands (171) and five-time winner Matthew Pavlich (160). Stephen Hill rounded off the top four with 137 votes.
Mundy, who has recently signed on for a further four years at the Dockers, enjoyed his best season of AFL football in 2010, playing 22 games and averaging 22 disposals per game.
He was a vital cog in Fremantle’s engine room and one of Aaron Sandilands’ favourite targets at the stoppages.
His ball-winning ability and precision skills were highlights in a great year for the club.
Mundy was recruited in 2003 from Victoria’s Murray Bushrangers and has played 130 games for Fremantle.
Dockers unveil new look
Oct 1st
The Fremantle Dockers today launched a bold new look for the club, unveiling a new logo and new home and clash guernseys for season 2011 with a major presentation on Fremantle Oval.
After Fremantle President Steve Harris had given a brief background on the events leading up to the new brand launch, a DVD capturing iconic moments from Fremantle’s 16-year history in the AFL was played to the attending media on a big screen on the oval.
It included footage of the club’s birth in 1994, its first game at the MCG on 1 April 1995 and highlights of some of the 153 players to have represented the Dockers in their 358 AFL games.
At the DVD’s conclusion, the club’s new logo made its first appearance.
Fremantle new logo and jumper – Background
Oct 1st
In September 2008, the Fremantle Football Club advised that it would be undertaking a review of its brand elements, including its logo, jumper and name, Fremantle Dockers.
As part of that process, the club engaged consultants who were given a brief to research the relevance of the brand elements amongst, members, supporters, sponsors, stakeholders and other interested parties.
The research that was undertaken in 2009 included but was not limited to face-to-face interviews with supporters at home games and an on-line survey of the brand elements that was sent to club members.
More than 2900 members took part in the survey in May 2009.
One clear theme from the research conducted in 2009 was that members and other stakeholders wanted to retain the reference to the club as the Fremantle Dockers, and that the most popular name for the club was the Fremantle Dockers, or Dockers, rather than the Fremantle Football Club.
