Ross Lyon and Matthew Pavlich received a warm welcome at Woodside’s Freo Season Launch at the Woodside Building in the city today.

Joined by Woodside CEO Peter Coleman, Lyon and Pavlich addressed the company’s staff, who took a break from their duties to catch a glimpse of the Freo coach and captain.

Coleman said his company was proud to be associated with the Fremantle Dockers, whose values he said fit in well with Woodside’s.

“It’s a strong partnership,” he said.

“We look at the professionalism of the club, the way they run their business, and we can learn lots of things from that.”

The Woodside staff also bought themselves some new Freo merchandise for the upcoming season and had Lyon and Pavlich sign their new purchases.

The Starlight Children Foundation’s mascot, Starman, was in attendance, helping collect donations and oversee the sausage sizzle, from which all proceeds went to the charity.

As well as answer the staff’s questions about the upcoming season, Pavlich offered some words of wisdom when asked what life in the AFL industry was like.

“If you have dreams of becoming an AFL player, or if you’re a female, there are some terrific jobs in the AFL industry,” he said.

“I’m an enormous advocate for getting involved in the AFL industry and forging a career.

“Take it and make the most of it.”

Pav said he couldn’t wait for Saturday’s Starlight Purple Haze Game to arrive.

“The Starlight Purple Haze is a great occasion and I know the boys can’t wait for the sea of purple at Patersons Stadium this Saturday night.”

Woodside Energy renewed its co-major sponsorship of the Fremantle Dockers in February this year for a further four years from 2013 to 2016 inclusive.
