Senior coach Ross Lyon says next week’s intra-club hit-out signals the start of the competitive phase of Fremantle’s 2012 season.

The match is scheduled to commence at 6.00pm on Friday 10 February at Patersons Stadium, although this could change depending on the weather.

Lyon said the match offered his team the opportunity to get the ball rolling heading into the NAB Cup and the regular season.

“It’s a lot higher tempo than anything you can manufacture at training and it helps build the players’ conditioning going into a full competitive hit out,” he said.

Lyon said every player available to play would play.

“It’s a methodical process heading into round 1, so everyone needs to start playing footy,” he said.

“Every one that’s injury-free, fit and available will play.”

The coach said he hoped the intra-club match would become an annual entree into the NAB Cup and urged all Freo fans to get down and watch the team on Friday.

“The season brings great hope and great expectation and this is our first competitive hit out where our passionate fans can get a first look,” he said.

“The momentum will start to build and round 1 will come around quickly.”
