Peel Thunder are tossing up between Fremantle pair Lee Spurr and Lachie Neale for the first selection in next month’s allocation of interstate AFL draftees.

Spurr, 24, was the Dockers’ first rookie draft pick at No.8 last year.

The 183cm utility player looms as the club’s latest mature-age wild-card on the back of three premierships with SANFL powerhouse Central District.

Neale, who has played senior football for Glenelg in the SANFL, is a 177cm pocket rocket capable of playing as an inside midfielder and forward.

The 18-year-old was drafted with Fremantle’s fourth selection at No.58 in last year’s national draft.

Peel will make their choice knowing they would run the risk of losing Spurr for much of the year.

The wooden spooners took then-rookie Michael Barlow with the first pick in the reverse draft two years ago, but did not get a single game out of the mature-age midfielder that season after he was upgraded to Fremantle’s senior list.

The WA Football Commission yesterday chose to postpone the allocation, which had been scheduled for tomorrow, until after a football affairs meeting on February 14.

A WAFC spokesman said they wanted to review their equalisation measures for the WAFL before deciding on the order in which clubs would get their selections.

The Thunder are guaranteed the No.1 pick given to the side that finished last in the previous WAFL season.

Swan Districts, East Perth and Perth are also expected to get two picks each after finishing in the bottom half of the WAFL ladder.

Only clubs that missed out on WAFL finals are involved.

Former St Kilda defender Zac Dawson is among the nine interstate recruits who will be assigned a WAFL club.

The Thunder have been successful in adding some experience to their list for 2012.

East Perth defender Brendan Hancock has joined teammate Pat Travers in defecting to Peel, while Claremont’s Matthew Orzel has also moved south after 99 games with the Tigers.

Orzel, 27, managed just seven matches for the Tigers last year and missed out on their drought-breaking premiership side.
