Axing was swift – Former assistant
Former Fremantle assistant coach Steve Malaxos said the sacking was “very quiet and swift” and came as quite a surprise.
Malaxos said there had been a “few whispers” during the week about the club being unhappy with Harvey, but there was no indication they planned to fire him.
“He’ll be pretty resilient about it and philosophical about it,” he said.
Malaxos said Harvey shared a breakfast with Fremantle chairman Steve Harris this morning and gave a speech about the future of the club.
“He appeared pretty relaxed and looking forward to next year,” he said. “But you never know what goes on behind the scenes.”
Malaxos said he was sure the replacement would be somebody that had coached before, but other than that had “no idea”.
Harvey joined the Dockers as an assistant coach in 2006 and took over midway through 2007 following the departure of Chris Connolly. He coached the Dockers in 95 games for 38 wins and 57 losses.
