McPhee offered one match
Fremantle midfielder Adam McPhee looks set to miss his team’s crucial clash with Carlton on Saturday night after the match review panel offered him one-match suspension for striking St Kilda’s Sam Gilbert.
But Hawthorn star Lance Franklin is free to play this weekend after his match-day report laid by a goal umpire for striking North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson was thrown out.
McPhee was reported during the first quarter of Freo’s loss to the Saints on Friday night, and television replays of the incident showed his elbow making contact with Gilbert’s head.
Gilbert fell to ground after the incident but was able to play out the game.
The MRP classified McPhee’s actions as reckless, of medium impact and high.
McPhee’s initial penalty, which took into account his poor recent record, was a two-match ban, but he can have the suspension reduced to one game if he pleads guilty.
Collingwood’s Ben Johnson and Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray can both accept reprimands after being cited for rough conduct and tripping respectively.
Adam Goodes’ collision with Essendon’s Angus Monfries was looked at, but the Sydney Swans co-captain was found to have made contact with Monfries’ chest rather than his head.
