Fremantle midfielder Nathan Fyfe will challenge the AFL Match Review Panel’s decision that he made negligent contact with umpire Shane Stewart in the round 7 match against Richmond played at the MCG on Saturday.

A successful appeal will see Fyfe avoid any fine.

If the appeal is unsuccessful, Fyfe will pay a $2400 fine as it would be his second offence for making negligent contact with an umpire.

The 19-year-old could have accepted an $1800 sanction with an early plea but chose to contest the decision.

The matter will be decided at the AFL Tribunal tonight.
