Fremantle are favoured by bookmakers to take out Sunday’s Western Derby against cross-town rivals West Coast, but not by much.

The Dockers are set to head into the Derby without exciting goalsneak Hayden Ballantyne and face a rejuvenated Eagles side at Paterson’s Stadium.

Both sides are coming off away losses, the Eagles going down gallantly to Essendon at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, while the Dockers fell away badly against Richmond on Saturday night.

The Dockers opened at $1.78 with Player Betting Agency, slightly shorter than West Coast at $2.02.

But Player manager Ben Pomatti predicted the odds could  shorten before bouncedown, leaving the two teams near-inseparable in the betting.

“It’s the closest Western Derby market we’ve seen for some time and there has been plenty of betting activity already,” Pomatti said.

“Fremantle have been slightly the better backed at this stage but by bounce-down on Sunday the book is likely to be balanced.”

Pomatti said betting agencies are expecting to receive a record amount from punters.

“We’re expecting to hold half a million dollars on the match which would be a record for a Western Derby”, Pomatti said.
