First-year Fremantle sensation Michael Barlow is on track to make a Round 1 return next season.

Barlow, 22, has received encouraging medical reports on the left leg he broke in Round 14 of a stunning debut season.

While the club remains cautious in its approach to Barlow’s recovery, there is optimism the ball magnet will make a full recovery.

“All the indications from his rehabilitation are that he’s on track,” a club spokesman said yesterday.

Barlow snapped the tibia and fibula of his left leg at Subiaco Oval in a collision with teammate Rhys Palmer.

Such was the extent of the break, there were early fears Barlow would struggle to recover for the start of next season.

The Dockers selected Barlow with their first selection in this year’s rookie draft. He was promoted to the senior list after dominating in the club’s three NAB Cup pre-season clashes.

His 33 disposals and two goals in Round 1 was the most possessions gained by a player on debut since the League began keeping statistics in 1992.
