When out-of-contract Fremantle star Matthew Pavlich asked us to judge him on his past deeds in March, we listened.

He argued that he had repeatedly resisted the temptation to return home to South Australia, so why would he make the move now?

Six months later, Pavlich is yet to re-sign and what started as a quiet whisper has become a deafening roar.

Ask Fremantle and they tell you he is “100 per cent committed” to the club and sure to stay.

But talk to the Gold Coast and they are becoming increasingly confident Pav could be wearing a Suns jumper next season.

They say what in March was a pipe-dream is now something of a possibility.

Not “fairly confident” as they are with Gary Ablett, but certainly in the ball park.

They say Pavlich is certainly listening to their multi-million dollar offer.

Carlton also has a stack of cash available after jettisoning Brendan Fevola, but probably trails the Suns in the race for Pav.

Odds are that Pavlich will likely re-commit, especially with Fremantle establishing itself as a future premiership contender.

But imagine the Ablett-Pavlich one-two punch.

It might cost over $3 million a year for the pair combined, but the Suns would be instant finalists.
